Probation, Parole, and House arrest are all used as a way to get out of jail. They are often used on first offenders, people who get out on good behavior, people who could be pregnant, and it saves money because the cost of being in jail is about $40,000 dollars annually for one inmate. The success rate is often pretty high without people reoffending during their parole, probation, or house arrest because if they act up they will be sent right back to jail. The negatives of them is the lack of punishment and criminals released back into society. I personally believe we should use them more, it is a great way to give someone a second opportunity if they really have changed for the good and it drops the amount of tax people have to pay towards jail.
